2026 U.S. Senate Elections

Track candidates and key races shaping the next Senate.

Home/ Elections/ 2026 U.S. Senate Elections

The 2026 midterm elections will decide roughly a third of the U.S. Senate — the class of seats up this cycle — and with it, potential control of the chamber.

What's at stake

The party that holds the Senate majority sets the floor agenda and controls confirmations of judges and executive nominees. Because seats are staggered into three classes, only about a third are contested in any election, so a handful of competitive states can tip the balance.

How Senate elections work

Senators are elected statewide to six-year terms. Every voter in a state helps choose that state's two senators — there are no districts for the Senate. Use the directory below to see who is running in your state.
